The Mobile Area Council held its annual Heritage Society Reception on December 3rd on the 29th floor in the RSA Tower in Downtown Mobile. Over 45 guests were in attendance for this annual donor recognition & cultivation event. In our Council, hundreds of thousands of boys have been Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and thousands of Scouts have even earned the rank of Eagle Scout. With our Council’s focus on growing our local Trust Account today, the next 100+ years of Scouting will involve thousands of more young people in Lower Alabama who will become better youth leaders for tomorrow. Currently, we have a trust account that supports our general operating account.
Donors give to the general trust fund, such as becoming a James West Member for a minimum donation of $1,000. We have over $240,000 in our local council trust account. Let me say that word again—local. When you give a gift, your money stays here to support Scouting in Lower Alabama. So, when you contribute $1,000 or more in cash or securities to the local council trust account, we use the interest off of the principal gift to help our annual operating budget for Scouting now.
We hope to one day create a trust account for the Maubila Scout Reservation and for Boy Scout Camp Pinetreat. This would make three different funds. It costs the Mobile Area Council approximately $45,000 a year to operate Camp Pinetreat and another $75,000 to operate the Maubila Scout Reservation.
